Merick's Corner Visit Washington D.C

 Hello everyone, welcome back to the corner... Well Spring is here but nowhere to be found...But that does not stop us here at Merick's Corner.. My friend Damir is he here and we are taking you a little through NYC and  the best trip of all... Washington D.C... So hop on and lets go for a read through Merick's Corner...  The picture above is me in central park coming from the Met and the Guggenheim Museum.. Below is one of my best friend  Damir who is visiting NYC and decided to take in the corner experience of me being his tour guide around town.

 Welcome, to Washington D.C; Capitol of the United States of America, US Congress,White House, Presidential Monuments, War Memorial, Supreme Court, Smithsonian Institution, National Zoo, National Mall, National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Air & Space Museums and countless other things that Washinton D.C; is known for. So Merick's Corner and a couple of the Corner Crew decided to venture to D.C and learn some fun facts about our Nations Capital. Here is some fun facts about the 'Federal City'.
The Federal city was designed by Pierre L'Enfant and laid out by Andrew Ellicott. Here some pictures taken below of the fun day we had in Washington D.C

 Inside the Library of Congress below. The Library was founded in 1800 making it one of the oldest federal insitution. The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world, with more than 147 million items on approximately 838 miles of bookshelves. The collections include more than 33 million books and other print materials, 3 million recordings, 12.5 million photographs, 5.4 million maps, 6 million pieces of sheet music and 64.5 million manuscripts.

 Walking through the street of D.C on a summer spring day... Fun facts: In the war of 1812, the British burnt most of the public buildings including the Capitol and the White House. After 1901, Washington D.C was developed on the basics of L'Enfant plan. A gridiron arrangements of  streets cut diagonal avenues rotating from the Capitol and White House.

Below is Pictures of the Washington Monument. Fun Facts: The Washington Monument was created as a show of gratitude to George Washington in helping to create a new form of government espousing equal treament under the law.

 
The World War II Memorial honors the 16 million who served in the armed forces of the U.S., the more than 400,000 who died, and all who supported the war effort from home. Symbolic of the defining event of the 20th Century, the memorial is a monument to the spirit, sacrifice, and commitment of the American people. The Second World War is the only 20th Century event commemorated on the National Mall’s central axis.

 The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a tribute to the dead of the USA longest, most unpopular, and least successful war. Like the war itself, this memorialization was highly controversial, but the site has become the most frequently visited memorial in Washington, D.C., drawing over 4 million visitors annually.

 Below is a Picture of the White House.. Fun Facts:

• There are 132 rooms, 32 bathrooms, and 6 levels to accommodate all the people who live in, work in, and visit the White House. There are also 412 doors, 147 windows, 28 fireplaces, 7 staircases, and 3 elevators.
• At various times in history, the White House has been known as the "President's Palace," the "President's House," and the "Executive Mansion." President Theodore Roosevelt officially gave the White House its current name in 1901.
• John Adams was the first president to live at the White House
• Barak Obama was the first black president to live in the White House. He is now our current president.

 In the photo below: This woman,Connie and her friend Thomas have been protesting 24hrs a day in front of the Whitehouse since 1981,they each do a shift with rest room breaks while friends watch there stuff for a few minutes. These are my friends taking a look on the issues she is protesting about

 Below is a statue in US Capitol given by the state of Hawaii... One of my favorites... did you know that each state have two statues within the capitol.. umm ummm...

 Below is me back in NYC downtown showing Damir  a little of New York history downtown... fun little facts about my corner... New York City. The first capital of the United States was New York City. In 1789 George Washington took his oath as president on the balcony at Federal Hall. The Statue of Liberty is 101 feet tall from base to torch, 305 feet tall from pedestal foundation to torch. She has a 35-foot waist and an 8-foot index finger, and she weighs 450,000 pounds. New York was the first state to require license plates for cars. The “New York Post,” founded in 1803 by Alexander Hamilton, is the oldest running newspaper in the United States.
