Hello Everyone and Welcome back to Merick's Corner... I want to take time out to wish Everyone Happy Black History Month... Feburary is Black History Month. It's that special month of the year that as been set aside to reflect, remember and commemorate the history of  Black People all over the world. Black history month is the month were more emphasis is place on the pages of history that document the many stages of the black race. A month when we can reflect on the past, our oppression when our black ancestors were plunged into many  years of slavery, suffering and injustice. This is also a month that celebrate the people who fight for the right to be free, the fight for justice not only for black people but for all people. This is the month that celebrate our collective accomplishments as a defined people.

Black History Month also celebrate our rich cultural heritage and history as a defined people. Our mighty civilization of the past and the future, our music that as transform generations and reach beyond the black race.  We move our bodies to the rhythm and dances that are still deep within us... we move our bodies to drums of Africa. Our black cultures are diverse, our customs are different, yet they still have some similarities that are engraved no matter how much our societies have evolved.

Every year Black History Month brings  back so much memories for me....In the picture above is a dissolve picture of one of my greatest hero's my Grand-Father Matthew Robinson who was the son of a Slave... It was on that hill top in which he was born that freedom was fought and won... and it is on that very mountain top where he is eternally at rest.  To him black history month was his christmas and new year... because it was the month that unites not only black people but all people...

We has a people as seen so many changes from generation to generation and within a generation... a few years ago here in the USA we were all witness to a prominent page of history been written right infront of our eyes. Here in America  we saw our first black President... A country that has gone through slavery, civil rights movements for equality, a country that is one of the most influential in our time and the world. A great feat for an ethic group that as risen from enslavement, endured the obstacles through the civil rights movements and now has some resemblance of an equal opportunity and rights.... But brothers and sisters lets us  not be fooled, we still have a long way to go has a people... but a step and foot in the right direction will bring more empowerment.

Brother's and Sister's and friends of Merick's Corner,  Black History Month is not the time for us to look back at the past with bitter feelings, but to look back with a sense of pride, to know that the black ethnic group... a defined people fought to be treated as equal to any other and has come along way in achieving this goal, and still as a long way still to go

Many characters did their part in the struggle for freedom, equal rights and justice. Some of these people are.. All of the National Heroes in my small island country of Jamaica, people such as: Marcus Garvey, Samuel Sharp, Paul Bogle, Nanny of the Maroons...In the USA we have heroes such as: Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and of course the woman who refuse not  to sit at the back of the bus,  Rosa Parks... All doing their part to empower us as black people... the defined people... In todays world we still look to great people such as Bob Marley who difined music and transform a country and  the world. Colin Powell, Jesse Owens, Ray Charles, James Brown, Oprah Winfrey who transform generations,  Althea Gibson who was the first black woman to win wimbledon an change hands with the Williams sisters who is one of the greatest sister acts in sports in this generation and maybe beyond in the world of  tennis, we have usain bolt who lifts a country to new heights and earn respect has the fastest man ever in the world of Athlectics. We have a man that tells a people "YES WE CAN" and lift not only black people but all people from a rainy day to a sunny day in believing  in hope again, Barak Obama . There is so many people to mention who are doing their part to change the old culture to a new one....From people in every walks of  life and nationalities a new dawn as come and things are changing ...  And I know many people in every Corner of the world are doing their part to change the world in their own little corners.

So as we reflect during Black History Month, let us not only look backward on many great people and heroes such as my grand-father but most importantly lets look forward and continue to improve ourselves as a people.. not just as a black ethnic group, or what ever orgins or creed we are... we can learn from all the pages of the history. Maya Angelo one of the greatest black poet of our  country the usa and the world.... "Still like dust I Rise.."  I just feel live everyday we are rising... but folks for us to continue to rise we need to keep the fight alive and well... we have to fight for what we believe in.. we have to fight for freedom... not only for black people or as some people called us the defined people but for all people... race, sexual orientation and creed... we need to stand up for all evil of injustice.... we are not different people.. we are one human race makes up all colors of the rainbow and in between.... And maybe one day our children will see how we build upon our ancestors and change history into a just world for all of us to live in peace and harmony. So lets start here at Merick's Corner.. start today,,,, with yourself.... your family... and your corners in building one unify world... one world of brotherhood and sisterhood.....
